Last week it was mooted that Alisson Becker could be a target for Juventus in the summer transfer window.

The long-standing Liverpool No1 is nonetheless widely expected to be handed a one-year contract extension - taking his terms to 2027 - with the club holding an option to trigger an extra season in his current deal.

A report from La Repubblica via Calcio Mercato states that Inter Milan have joined the race for the Brazilian - who turns 34 in October.

One complication for the two Serie A sides will be Alisson’s wages - estimated at around £150k per week and unaffordable for most of Italy’s top clubs. But if an adjustment can be made on salary then Alisson could well become a legitimate target.

Alisson Becker: Situation summary

Alisson Becker is under contract at Liverpool until 2026, with most reporting indicating either a club option or active talks that effectively take his deal through to 2027, when he will be 34.

He remains first‑choice goalkeeper and one of the dressing room leaders, but he is now firmly in the veteran phase of his career and has had more niggling fitness issues over the past two seasons.

On wages of around £150,000 per week, putting him among the club’s top earners, his salary and age profile are increasingly part of internal planning discussions about how and when to refresh the position.

Last summer he turned down Saudi interest and publicly committed to staying, but pieces around that time framed 2026 as a natural decision point, especially with Liverpool tracking long‑term successors such as Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Taken together – contract running down, high salary, advancing age and active succession scouting – this season feels like the start of the “beginning of the end” for Alisson as Liverpool’s undisputed No 1.

Analysis

In a Q and A for the Liverpool Echo last week club specialist Ian Doyle wrote that Alisson’s kicking had become an “issue” for the Premier League champions and - therefore - he could be offloaded and space made for Mamardashvili.

Several hamstring problems have taken their toll on the Brazil No1 - who often hands over goal-kick duties to his centre-backs.

“Alisson remains an excellent shot-stopper and the world's best at one-on-ones, but there's no doubt he has become a little more tentative with distribution with his feet, which is understandable given his continual hamstring problems,” Doyle wrote.

“That is a bit of an issue for a Liverpool team that likes to play out from the back, and it's noticeable the Brazilian doesn't regularly take the goal kicks these days.”

And the last two fixtures have REALLY brought the distribution problem into focus. Against West Ham on Saturday Alisson was lucky not to concede a goal to Jarrod Bowen after he coughed up possession sloppily inside his own box.

And worse was to come on Tuesday night away at Wolves at Molineux. After Curtis Jones played an ill-advised back-pass to the goalkeeper Alisson was unable to muster the requisite power or direction on his clearance - turning the ball over to Wolves.

Andre did not need a second invitation to score - albeit off a deflected strike.

An earlier version of Alisson would have planted that clearance much further up the pitch - but instead it resulted in an immediate attack and the loss of two precious points.

With Liverpool in a congested race for Champions League football the Reds can ill-afford any more mistakes like that.

It also serves as a reminder why Alisson’s kicking has been noted down as a mark against him - and why a parting of the ways could be on the cards.
