MIAMI – The 2025 Concacaf Boy’s U/15 Championship will feature some of the top youth stars in the region as the fifth edition of the competition takes place from August 2 to 10.

Ahead of the tournament, we review some of the young promising players that appeared in Concacaf’s U-15 Championship prior to succeeding at the professional level and with their senior national teams.

Gilberto Mora (Mexico)

After featuring in the 2023 edition, Gilberto Mora has experienced a meteoric rise over the past two years.

As a youth international, the midfielder played for Mexico's U-15, U-16, and U-17 teams. He captained the U-15 side as he made sixteen appearances and scored nine goals and captained the U-17 team as a 15-year-old. Mora was then included in the provisional 60-man list for the 2025 Concacaf Nations League Finals and made the 26-man squad for the 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup.

Mora achieved several historic milestones at the 2025 Gold Cup: starting in the Quarterfinals against Saudi Arabia and officially becoming the youngest-ever player to debut for El Tri at 16, providing an assist against Honduras in the Semifinals to become the youngest player to record an assist in the Gold Cup at 16 years, 8 months, and 18 days, and becoming the youngest player to feature in all stages of the Knockout Round.

At the club level, Mora has made 33 appearances for Liga MX’s Club Tijuana since making his professional debut in 2024, contributing two goals and an assist.

Giovanni Reyna (USA)

Captain of the United States in the 2017 edition, Giovanni Reyna’s career flourished both with USA’s senior side and at the club level since then.

On the international stage, Reyna has compiled 32 caps for USA since making his debut for the senior side in 2020, scoring eight goals and dishing five assists. Reyna played two matches in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and the three matches in the 2024 Copa América. He also helped the USA win the 2019/20, 2022/23, and 2023/24 editions of the Concacaf Nations League. Reyna was selected to the Best XI twice and won the Tournament’s Best Player Award in 2023/24.

At club level, the versatile attacker completed his youth development with Borussia Dortmund in Germany before being promoted to the first team in 2020, totaling 147 appearances across all competitions, tallying 19 goals and providing 18 assists. Reyna also had a stint on loan at Nottingham Forrest in England.

Gianluca Busio (USA)

Gianluca Busio also featured for the USA side that finished as runners-up in the 2017 U-15 Championship. The midfielder subsequently starred for his country’s U-19 side, including scoring five goals in Concacaf’s U-17 Championship in 2019 and appearing in all three of the USA’s matches and scoring once at the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Brazil, before making his debut for the senior side in 2021.

With the senior national team, Busio has made 17 appearances, recording one goal and three assists. He appeared in the 2021 Gold Cup (1 assist) and 2023 Gold Cup (1 goal and 2 assists), notably helping USA clinch the title in 2021.

The midfielder currently features for Italian side Venezia FC, having played 132 matches, and contributing 10 goals and seven assists since his arrival in 2021.

Manfred Ugalde (Costa Rica)

Having competed with Costa Rica in the 2017 edition, Manfred Ugalde has become a staple at the senior international level.

With Costa Rica’s senior national team, he’s played 25 matches to date, scoring 10 goals and providing 8 assists. The forward appeared in the 2024 Copa America (2 matches), the 2023 and 2024 Nations League (2 and 6 matches respectively), and the 2025 Gold Cup (3 matches, 3 goals).

At club level, Ugalde won the Young Player Award in the 2019 Scotiabank Concacaf League with Deportivo Saprissa, scoring four goals in seven matches en route to lifting the championship trophy. The current FC Spartak Moscow player was also named Eredivisie Young Talent of the Month in March 2023, Russian Premier League Player of the Month in November and December 2024 and finished as Russian Premier League top scorer with 17 goals in the 2024/25 season.

Josimar Alcócer (Costa Rica)

Played in the 2022 Concacaf Men’s Under-20 Championship in Honduras, reaching the quarterfinals, where Costa Rica was eliminated by the United States (2-0). He featured in all 5 matches of the tournament, scoring 1 goal (against Trinidad & Tobago in the Round of 16) and providing 2 assists (against Antigua & Barbuda in the group stage and against Trinidad & Tobago in the Round of 16).

With the Costa Rica senior national team, he has played 24 matches, scoring 6 goals and providing 2 assists. He appeared in the 2023 and 2025 Gold Cups (2 goals), and participated in the 2022/2023 and 2024/2025 Concacaf Nations League (1 goal).

He was part of the LD Alajuelense squad that won the 2024 Concacaf Central American Cup and also played in two matches of the Concacaf Champions Cup.

Alcócer currently plays for KVC Westerlo in Belgium.

Darixon Vuelto (Honduras)Forward Darixon Vuelto was the winner of the Best Player Award in the inaugural U-15 Championship in 2013. Following the milestone, he starred for Honduras at several youth levels and has earned six caps for his country’s senior side.

Vuelto represented Honduras at several FIFA youth World Cups, appearing in the nation’s all three matches in the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile. He also featured in all three of Honduras’s matches in the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup in India.

At the club level, Vuelto made his debut in the 2013/14 Concacaf Champions League at 15 on October 23 and went on to score in CD Victoria’s loss to Luis Ángel Firpo of El Salvador. He then compiled an interesting résumé for teams around the globe, going on loan to CD Tenerife in Spain, playing for Portland Timbers 2 in the United States, and featuring for Deportivo Saprissa in Costa Rica. Vuelto is set to play in the 2025 Concacaf Central American Cup with Real España of Honduras.

Jorge Álvarez (Honduras)

After competing in the 2015 edition of the U-15 Championship, Jorge Álvarez has established himself as one of Honduras’ top players.

With the Honduras senior national team, the midfielder has played 36 matches, scoring two goals and providing six assists. He has participated in three editions of the Gold Cup: 2019 (1 goal), 2023, and 2025 editions (1 goal), reaching the semifinals in 2025. Álvarez also featured in the 2019/20, 2023/24, and 2024/25 editions of the Nations League, and represented his country’s U-23 side at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics.

Luis Vega (Honduras)

Midfielder Luis Vega competed with Honduras at the 2017 U-15 Championship. Following that, he played 25 matches for his nation’s senior side, scoring once.

Vega has tallied 25 caps and participated in the 2023 and 2025 Gold Cups. Vega also featured in the 2023/24 and 2024/25 editions of the Concacaf Nations League (6 matches each).
