Just like Algeria’s Fennecs, Morocco’s Atlas Lions could be handed a brutally tough draw for the 2026 World Cup.
Already qualified, Morocco is guaranteed a place in Pot 2 for the 2026 World Cup draw. The draw will take place on December 5 at the Kennedy Center in Washington, United States. The Atlas Lions will avoid certain teams like Croatia, Uruguay, Japan, and possibly Italy if they advance through the playoffs, but a nightmare group scenario remains a real possibility. Indeed, France, who are seeded alongside Argentina and Spain, could end up as Morocco’s group stage opponents.
Pot 3, for its part, could bring another massive challenge: Erling Haaland’s Norway, home to one of the most feared strikers in world football. And finally, Pot 4 will include nations like Saudi Arabia, who have recently qualified and already proven their ability to cause upsets on the global stage—most notably against Argentina in 2022. Thus, a hypothetical group of France, Norway, and Saudi Arabia is lurking for Morocco.
