FC Barcelona have been looking to reinforce the team during the January transfer window if possible. The primary hurdle, however, is that the club does not have adequate salary space to accommodate new arrivals. To change that, Barcelona would first need to ensure some departures.
Several reports have highlighted English winger Marcus Rashford as the primary candidate to arrive if Barcelona can generate the required salary space. The Manchester United winger is not having the best of times at the club, and even his own manager has publicly criticized him in a press conference.
For Barcelona, one of the primary objectives is to bring in a player who can provide a similar kind of one-on-one specialty that Lamine Yamal offers but on the opposite wing. So far this season, especially in terms of dribbling past people, the most effective forward has been the 17-year-old winger.
Now, however, it seems that a player who would fit such a profile has been offered to the club as well. According to SPORT, 22-year-old Belgian winger Jeremy Doku has been offered to Barcelona as a loan option by his agents as the player looks for a change of scenery due to his current situation at Manchester City.
So far this season, the player seems to have lost his place in terms of Pep Guardiola’s selection choices and Brazilian winger Savinho seems to be ahead of him at the moment. Moreover, with the arrival of Omar Marmoush from the Bundesliga, a move that cost around €80 million, Manchester City have equipped themselves with even more firepower on the wings.
As for Doku, the player is now studying the possibility of changing clubs and several sides have been contacted by his representatives as a result. One of them is Barcelona, and the option of bringing the player in is one that is catching attention within the club despite the difficulty of making it a reality.
In terms of statistics as well, Doku has scored six goals and provided seven assists this season in 1163 minutes of playing time, meaning that he averages a goal contribution per match. With a promising enough output, Barcelona will certainly be keeping an eye on the option to sign him on loan until the end of the season despite sales looking difficult at the moment due to certain players now preferring to stay.
