For West Ham United, the summer might have kicked off with more questions than answers. The club have had its ups and downs in recent years, and although they managed to stay afloat in the Premier League, the ambition to move up another notch remains alive. With the departure of Julen Lopetegui and the arrival of Graham Potter, the London team might be looking to revamp their midfield with young, hungry players. All eyes are now on Anfield, where Harvey Elliott seems to be caught between promises and decisions that have yet to solidify his position. Rumours are growing, and West Ham are beginning to emerge as a possible destination for the talented midfielder.

During a chat on talkSPORT Breakfast, Stuart Pearce spoke bluntly about Elliott. In a transfer dynamic, the former coach and player was clear in saying that he would immediately approve his departure from Liverpool. He recalled that even Jürgen Klopp, before leaving, confessed that he had not given him enough opportunities.

Pearce believes that the Englishman needs to play and that moving to another club would be beneficial for everyone. West Ham, in his view, could offer him that lost space and allow him to develop with consistent playing time. There was no doubt in his response, just a direct statement: the boy needs minutes.

“Right every day for me, on both counts. The player needs to play. When [Jurgen] Klopp left, he said: ‘I should have played Harvey Elliott a bit more’. That was one of the statements he made. He identified the talent of him and identified that he didn’t play him enough. He hasn’t played enough this year once again. I think that would be a good move for both parties. Right.”

T4O Opinion:

If West Ham really wants to strengthen themselves with a different type of footballer, Harvey Elliott would fit perfectly into that search. At 22, he has shown quality, control of the tempo and the courage to face defenders and step up his game. He is no stranger to the league, nor is he an experiment. The Englishman is a player with experience in demanding scenarios who has been moulded at one of the most competitive clubs in the country.

If Liverpool do not value him with minutes, another club should. West Ham has a place for someone like him, especially if they are looking to vary their style and offer something more than muscle in midfield. Potter could give him a starring role. The key will be to promise him time on the pitch, not words. The move would be brave, but also smart. If Elliott finds a space where he can play freely, he will perform. If West Ham dare, they could get a signing with immediate impact and potential. It’s not every day you have the option to sign a player like this without paying double for him in two years’ time.
