It looks like a race against time for any of the above players to be ready against Manchester City on Sunday, but City have a few potential absentees of their own ahead of the game.

In forward areas, Omar Marmoush will miss the game with a knee injury, and Rayan Cherki with a thigh injury. Behind them, Mateo Kovacic is also expected to be unavailable.

But City could receive a boost at the back, with Rayan Ait-Nouri and John Stones both in contention to play against Arsenal.

Stones could even be ready in time for Thursday night’s Champions League clash with Napoli, whilst Ait-Nouri is perhaps more likely to make it back for the weekend.

Arsenal fans will be keeping an eye on City’s lineup on Thursday, both for potential injury returners and just to see how strong the lineup is. Playing Arsenal less than three days later, it would be ideal if Pep Guardiola exhausts his best players.

City had been in poor form ahead of last weekend, losing consecutive fixtures to Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton and Hove Albion. But after a 3-0 win over Manchester United last Sunday, they should have got some of their confidence back.

The question now is whether that confidence remains intact after their clash with Napoli.
