Charlton continued their summer transfer window with the signing of Danny McNamara, and FLW looks at three other players Nathan Jones should target.

Charlton Athletic enjoyed a positive first season back in the Championship, as Nathan Jones led the team to safety.

That continues the progress the Addicks have made since the ex-Luton chief was appointed, and the challenge for Jones is to build on that going into the 2026/27 campaign.

Of course, it won’t be easy for the Londoners, as they don’t have the resources of many clubs at this level, so it’s crucial that they are shrewd in the market.

Charlton have already started their summer business, with Billy Koumetio, Ivan Mesik and Karlan Grant already through the door, and right-back Danny McNamara is the latest to join.

The deal for the defender is an interesting one, as he had been at rivals Millwall, but he will now link up with the Addicks, and he is proven in the Championship.

So, it appears like a sensible addition, but Charlton fans will be hoping that there is plenty more to come, and here we look at THREE players they should try to bring in…

The midfielder is a free agent after leaving Sheffield United in the summer, and there’s no doubt that his fitness record makes this potential deal a risk, even with no transfer fee involved.

But, it could be a gamble worth taking for Charlton, as Davies is undoubtedly a good player when he is fit and available, and he could benefit from working under Jones.

At his best, the former Everton man adds energy and drive to the middle of the park, and his ability to carry the ball and progress play is exactly what the Addicks are lacking.

Furthermore, Davies’ experience in the top two divisions would also be welcome in the dressing room, so he could bring qualities that Charlton are lacking on and off the pitch.

Tawanda Maswanhise

The priority for Jones in this window has to be strengthening in the final third, and Maswanhise would be a real coup for the club.

It won’t be an easy deal to do, as Maswanhise was outstanding for Motherwell in Scotland last season, where he scored 17 goals in the league.

But, his form tailed off in the final months of the season, which may reduce the level of interest, allowing Charlton to swoop in. Maswanhise can play in different attacking positions, which would be a real boost, and he would bring pace and a direct threat to Jones’ side.

At 23, he has plenty of room to improve, and the ex-Leicester man may jump at the opportunity to return to England, and Charlton could be the ideal place for him to get the regular game time he needs to keep progressing.

Adama Sidibeh

Stockport striker Sidibeh has only been with the League One side for six months, but his form is already attracting interest, with Rangers and Middlesbrough believed to be among his admirers.

Therefore, Charlton would have to battle for his signature, but with Jones likely to guarantee Sidibeh minutes, the striker may be open to moving to the capital.

The Gambia international would bring qualities that the Addicks desperately need, as he is quick, direct and a real difficult striker to deal with.

There are aspects of Sidibeh’s game that he could improve, and, at 28, he isn’t the finished article. But, there is a rawness to the way he plays that is appealing, and Jones has shown with many lower league players in the past that he can take them to a new level - and Sidibeh could follow that path and become Charlton’s main man up top.
