Abdul Fatawu could leave Leicester City this summer for one of these clubs
It’s been a difficult season for Leicester City in almost every metric, with the Foxes in danger of falling into League One, currently embroiled in a hotly-contested battle at the foot of the Championship table.
Exactly ten years ago, Leicester were on their way to being crowned Premier League champions in what is widely considered to be the greatest underdog story in sporting history.
It’s a damning case of just how quickly things can change in football if a myriad of bad decisions are made both on and off the pitch in a relatively short period.
It’s not like the Foxes are without quality in their ranks, boasting the likes of Harry Winks, Oliver Skipp and Jordan James in the midfield, whilst the likes of Jeremy Monga, Stephy Mavididi, and Abdul Fatawu occupy the attack.
Fatawu, in particular, is actually enjoying his best season in front of goal as a professional footballer, which may come as a surprise to many given Leicester’s current situation.
The Ghanaian initially joined the Foxes on loan from Sporting CP for the 2023/24 season, which was made permanent upon their return to the Premier League for a fee of £14 million.
The 21-year-old was linked with a potential £30 million move to Premier League side Sunderland as recently as the summer, and should Leicester indeed be relegated to League One come May, it’s almost certain that he will be on his way out of the King Power Stadium this summer.
With that being said, FLW has taken a look at two potential destinations for the Ghanaian international this summer should Leicester indeed go down.

A suggestion that’s bound to cause controversy from both sets of supporters, given the two clubs’ rivalry, but a move to Coventry City makes a great deal of sense for Fatawu.
The Sky Blues are on course to end their 25-year wait for Premier League football, and should they confirm promotion, huge reinvestment will be required to be put into the playing squad to prepare the club for the trials and tribulations of top-flight football.
Fatawu made just 11 Premier League appearances last season for the Foxes in what was an injury-laden year for the winger. However, he already possesses more experience than most in the Sky Blues’ ranks.
Best off the right, where he can cut in on his left, Fatawu would offer strong competition to Japanese winger Tatsuhiro Sakamoto and a slightly different option off that flank.
Both Min-Hyeok Yang and Romain Esse are only on loan for the campaign, whilst whether Jahnoah Markelo is capable of making the step up to the top tier at this stage remains unclear.
If Fatawu wants to remain in his current vicinity, switching Leicester for Coventry would allow him to do just that, and in a move that would no doubt make him unpopular among Foxes fans, the Ghanaian would have the chance to return to the Premier League with the Sky Blues and provide strong competition off the wing for Frank Lampard’s side.

Ipswich Town haven’t hit the heights many thought they would upon their return to the Championship this season, yet they remain strong contenders for a place in the top two come the end of the campaign, with a place in the top six almost certain.
Kieran McKenna oversaw a big overhaul this summer to his side's ranks, especially in attack, with the likes of Liam Delap, Omari Hutchinson, and Nathan Broadhead all leaving the club, whilst each of Ivan Azon, Sindre Walle Egeli, and Marcelino Nunez have all come in to replace them.
However, entering the January window, McKenna was clearly discontent with his attacking option, completing a deal for Bristol City’s Anis Mehmeti and seeing a bid worth around £15 million turned down late on for Millwall winger Femi Azeez.
Azeez, like Fatawu, is best off the right, clearly indicating that the right flank is an area which the Tractor Boys are looking to improve upon.
Whether they return for Azeez in the summer remains to be seen, though, should Leicester be relegated, they must keep one eye on Fatawu’s situation at the Foxes, who could prove to be an excellent alternative.
