After a disastrous past few weeks, Liverpool will hope the Champions League can offer some reprieve as they travel to Deutsche Bank Park to take on Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday night.

Harry Maguire’s late header handed Liverpool a 2-1 defeat against arch rivals Manchester United, condemning them to their first loss against the Red Devils at Anfield in almost a decade.

Liverpool have also now lost four games in a row across all competitions for the first time since the dark days of Brendan Rodgers back in November 2014.

It’s been over seven decades since Liverpool went five consecutive games without a single point, and for a manager who has broken several records since his arrival, Slot will be keen to avoid further upset.

The game against Frankfurt offers the Reds the perfect chance to end their torment, and the importance of getting a result should reflect in Slot’s starting XI.

How Liverpool could line up

Hoping to avoid another upset of historic proportions, Slot could make at least four chances from the team that lost to United at the weekend.

Giorgi Mamardashvili will continue in Alisson’s place while Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate anchor the defence.

However, there could be changes at full back with Dominik Szoboszlai and Andrew Robertson stepping in for Conor Bradley and Milos Kerkez, who have been identified as the weak links in the rearguard.

Ryan Gravenberch is a doubt for the Champions League clash after limping off with an ankle problem against United.

If he’s not fit enough to start, Slot could call on Curtis Jones to partner Alexis Mac Allister in midfield.

Slot will also hope that Mohamed Salah can recapture his goalscoring form in the Champions League.

The Egyptian legend has been a shadow of his prolific and creative self since the start of the season, returning just three goals and three assists in 10 games.

He has also failed to score or assist in his last four matches for the Reds.

Nevertheless, he should retain his spot on the right flank. Cody Gakpo was a bright spark against United and should continue on the left with Florian Wirtz still waiting for his first Liverpool goal in the 10 role.

Alexander Isak was hardly a ray of sunshine at the weekend, with Hugo Ekitike making more of an impact after coming off the bench.

The Frenchman could be rewarded for his impressive cameo with a place in the starting XI.
