Reporter Ben Jacobs has given the latest news on Chelsea’s attempts to sign a new defender this summer transfer window.
Things are certainly heating up a bit now after the Club World Cup finished, although it is mainly Chelsea’s Premier League rivals who have been in the headlines this week trying to make a number of new signings.
Chelsea are still looking to do some more business though and bring two or three more players in through the door before the window closes, but there is plenty of time left of course.
I’ve actually just written a story on Chelsea potentially looking to go back in to make a move to sign Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig, although that does seem fairly unlikely at the moment.
Chelsea have made an enquiry to sign defender Jorrel Hato from Ajax this summer, a story that was confirmed yesterday by The Athletic as well.

Hato is a top young defender who can play as a left back or as a centre back and you’d imagine he would come in as that Marc Cucurella back up that they lack in the squad at the moment. The fact he is versatile and can play centrally as well could mean that he would be a good option to invert as a full back like Enzo Maresca does more often than not.
Ben Jacobs had his latest on Hato to Chelsea speaking on a stream with Chelsea content creator Alex Goldberg this week.
His words, as cited on X, suggests a deal can be done.
He said:
“£40m could be possible for Jorrel Hato and Chelsea made fresh contact. Ajax right now are asking for something like £60m.”
