Major League Soccer is on the go with its 30th season in full affect. One of the original teams, the Los Angeles Galaxy, has an elustrious history winning six MLS Cup titles.

The Portland Timbers, a fierce competitor in MLS's Western Conference, may not have been in the league for 30 years, but they, too, have some notable moments. They won the 2015 MLS Cup, the year after the LA Galaxy won their fifth.

These two teams play on Sunday. Multiple players have suited up and made appearances for both the LA Galaxy and the Timbers. Let's take a look at a few of those names.

Ariel Lassiter

Current Timber winger, Ariel Lassiter, is on the roster for Portland. The 30-year-old Costa Rica native played for the Chicago Fire last year before switching to the Western Conference.

He has played for Inter Miami, CF Montreal and the Houston Dynamo, as well. However, before all of those teams, Lassiter was a member of the Los Angeles Galaxy from 2015 to 2018.

Following the LA Galaxy's 2014 MLS Cup win, the team added the forward to their roster nine years ago. In 25 appearances, Lassiter did manager to score once.

He also played for the LA Galaxy II team. During the same span, Lassiter appeared in 58 games for the second team and scored 30 goals.

The veteran plays for his country's national team. Lassiter has been on the Costa Rican national team since 2019. In 28 games, he has found the back of the net twice.

Donovan Ricketts

Born in Montego Bay, Jamaica, this goalkeeper played for the Los Angeles Galaxy before and after he was a member of the Portland Timbers.

Ricketts made his MLS debut in 2009 for the LA Galaxy. In his first year with the team, the Galaxy was a win short of claiming the title. They in the MLS Cup Finals to Real Salt Lake.

Josh Saunders replaced Ricketts in the championship game due to an injury. The next year, Ricketts won the award for Goalkeeper of the Year.

Following the 2011 MLS season, the Jamaican keeper was sent to the Montreal Impact. His stint in Canada was short lived as he was moved within the same year to the Portland Timbers.

Joining the LA Galaxy the same season that Lassiter did, Ricketts appeared in 73 games between 2012 to 2014. In 2015, he also played for Orlando City in the same year.

As we know, Rickett's former team (the Timbers) won the MLS title the season after he departed.

Jack McInerney

This forward played for the Portland Timbers in 2016. In 24 games, he scored five times.

The next season, McInerney joined the Los Angeles Galaxy. The Chattanooga, Tennesse native did not score, though, in his eight appearances for the team.

After eight seasons in MLS, McInerney left the pros to play for the Indy Eleven (United Soccer League). This was the first year for the Indy Eleven in this league after leaving the North American Soccer League (NASL).

Jorge Villafana

Born in Anaheim, California, the US born defender made his MLS debut with Chivas USA. After seven seasons, Villadana joined the Portland Timbers in 2014.

Following his two-year stint in the Pacific Northwest, joined the Los Angeles Galaxy for his final two seasons in the league. From 2021 to 2022, Villafana appeared in 21 games.

He finished his professional career with 10 goals in 269 appearances. Staying close to Portland, Villafana currently is managing PDX Football Club of the US League Two.

Mamba Chisoni

This dual threat soccer player was an asset on offense for the LA Galaxy. The Zimbabwe-born athlete played both midfield and forward in his career.

Chisoni made his MLS debut in 2005, the same season that the Los Angeles Galaxy won their second title. In 11 apearances, Chisoni did not score, but was a strong pressence in the locker room.

He joined the Portland Timbers the next year. In 17 games, Chisoni scored twice.

After his two-year stint in Major League Soccer, Chisoni made his return to the Indiana Evaders of the United States Premier Development League (PDL).

Other household names that played for this team and in MLS include Clint Dempsey, goalkeeper Brad Knighton and defender Kevin Goldthwaite.

Ned Grabavoy

Born in Joliet, Illinois, this midfielder also made his MLS debut with the Los Angeles Galaxy. Grabavoy joined the league in 2004.

During his three-year stint with the LA Galaxy, he was a part of the 2005 MLS Cup championship team. In 34 appearances, Grabavoy score once.

The former Indiana Hoosier athlete would play for four other MLS teams before joining the Portland Timbers in 2016. Grabavoy scored 16 times during that span.

In his final season in MLS, the midfielder played in 22 games for the Timbers. Grabavoy was also a member of the U20 squad for the United States in 2003.
