Chelsea have reportedly had a £64m transfer bid rejected for Alex Scott as Bournemouth continue to fight to keep their star midfielder.
The 22-year-old has been superb for the Cherries, so is surely not someone they’ll want to lose, but there’s a huge amount of interest in him this summer.
Although the latest offer has come from Chelsea, with Bournemouth turning down £64m from the Blues, they’ve also previously snubbed Arsenal’s enquiry about the Englishman, according to BBC Sport.
Chelsea have just completed the signing of Morgan Rogers in what looks like one of the most exciting deals of the summer, and Scott would be another fine addition to Xabi Alonso’s squad.
Still, Bournemouth are clearly not about to let Scott go without a fight, so what next in this saga?
It will be interesting to see if Chelsea try again for Scott, while it would surely also make sense to keep an eye on Arsenal’s interest.
With Sky Sports reporting that Scott has rejected a new contract offer from Bournemouth, it’s perhaps hard not to see this ending with his sale.
Still, the England Under-21 international is also under contract with his current club until 2028, so even if it might make financial sense to sell him now, they’re not under too much pressure to do so.
As well as Arsenal and Chelsea, it’s also easy to imagine other big clubs getting involved, with the BBC’s report also mentioning interest from Manchester United, City, and Tottenham.
Another link that could make a lot of sense is with Scott’s former manager Andoni Iraola, who is now in charge of Liverpool.
The Spanish tactician has previously praised Scott as “amazing”, as quoted by BBC Sport, and there’s surely a case for bringing him in as an upgrade on Alexis Mac Allister, whose form dipped somewhat last season.
For now it seems like Chelsea and other clubs have a more concrete interest, but Iraola is clearly a big fan of Scott, so we should perhaps keep an eye on LFC to see if they get involved in this transfer battle at some point this summer.
