Fabrizio Romano’s update on Chelsea’s transfer status for next summer has us dreaming about an attacking option.

While the “priority” is to sign a striker, according to Romano’s column for GiveMeSport, there’s also the intent to sign a left winger if the right one is on the market.

That’s despite the fact that Estevao Willian is arriving this summer, Geovany Quenda is arriving next summer, Jadon Sancho’s move is going to become permanent, Pedro Neto was signed last summer, and other players like Joao Felix are also going to need a space somewhere.

In the past we might have thought that all that made it unlikely that the Blues go after another player in attacking positions (outside a number 9, of course). But the last couple of years have taught us that the plan is to accumulate now, and figure out the details later.

Williams the dream option for many Chelsea fans

If the Blues are going to buy, there’s nobody we’d rather see them move for than Nico Williams. The Athletic Club left winger is 22 and a sensational player. He’s long been in demand by Premier League teams, and it feels like eventually he will want to try something new.

CaughtOffside today report that Chelsea are in the mix along with Arsenal to try and persuade the Spain star to trade La Liga for the Premier League.

The transfer fee would be large, and the wages too. He’s valued at €70m by Transfermarkt, and given his quality, his age and the demand for him, they could get a lot more.

That could end up being what kills this potential move from a Chelsea perspective. They didn’t want to pay up for Michael Olise last summer, and the same problems could affect them with another world class star here. But still, we can dream…
