Arsenal academy striker Mika Biereth completed a permanent transfer to Sturm Graz this summer, and he’s made an excellent start to life with his new club.

Though he’s yet to score or assist in two Champions League appearances, the striker has eight goals and one assist in his 11 domestic games so far.

That includes a hat-trick against Austrian giants RB Salzburg just before the international break.

The 21-year-old has a four-year contract with Sturm, so he has plenty of time to develop and grow with his new club. If the Austrian side decide to sell him, Arsenal have a sell-on clause in his deal.

But what about a potential return to north London in the future?

“A transfer back to Arsenal would be fantastic,” Biereth told Danish outlet TV2. “But it’s not something I’m focusing on right now.

“If I keep playing well and scoring goals, hopefully a change can come, but right now I’m focused on Sturm and on doing well and scoring goals.

“Things are going well in Sturm Graz. I have nothing to complain about right now. I play every week at a good level, and now we also play in the Champions League, where I’m still waiting for my first goal.”

After winning the domestic double last season with Biereth as a loanee, Sturm are once again the league leaders in 2024/25. But they’re just a point clear of Rapid Wien after nine games, so there’s plenty of race still to be run.

The team are also into the third round of the OFB Cup after victories over Kremser SC and SV Ried.

As he mentions, the Champions League is the one place Biereth will hope for some improvement, with Sturm losing both of their games so far. Sporting CP are their next opponents next week.
