Transfer rumour site CaughtOffside claim that the Blues, along with Man U and Newcastle, are all interested in the France star, who could be available for €80m next summer.

Andrey Santos looks really promising, but Romeo Lavia is now into his third season of struggling with injury, and if there aren’t already contingency plans in motion to replace him, there really should be.

Camavinga is a top player – he can defend, he can pass, he can press. He may not end up being Xabi Alonso’s favourite if he takes the team in a different direction, but we’ve love him at Chelsea.

Perhaps after winning it all in Spain he’d like a different challenge? It feel a little unlikely at this stage, but a lot can change over the course of a season, especially in Madrid where both fans and ownership are famously ruthelss.

Camavinga transfer would require change of Chelsea strategy

It always sounds far fetched to hear Chelsea linked to players from top clubs like Real Madrid these days. The strategy is to buy low and sell high. If you buy high on a peak age player from one of the world’s biggest teams, you leave yourself no room for profit. It’s just a question of how much you lose in the long run.

But next summer, once the overhaul of the squad has been digested financially and there is hopefully another wave of Champions League cash in the bank, that will hopefully change. We’d like to see the club target at least one potentially game changing player every summer. Camavinga would be a great start.
