Manchester United have initiated interest in Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga through intermediaries, according to Bernabeu Digital.
The Red Devils signed Manuel Ugarte to bolster their midfield in the last transfer window and he has been impressive in recent appearances for the club.
The Uruguayan is expected to become a mainstay under new manager Ruben Amorim. The 23-year-old was a stand-out player under the Portuguese during his time at Sporting CP.
United have Kobbie Mainoo, Mason Mount, Casemiro and Christian Eriksen to occupy the other central midfield role, but this has not stopped transfer speculation.
Eriksen is expected to leave the club when his contract expires next summer while Casemiro has also been touted to depart by the end of the ongoing campaign.
A new midfielder could be pursued next year and Bernabeu Digital claim that United have established contact with Camavinga’s entourage via intermediaries.
The Frenchman is also aware of the reported interest and he is flattered to be linked with the club.
However, the Rennes graduate still has five more years left on his contract with Los Blancos and wants to continue at the European champions for a long time.
The Red Devils were linked with the 22-year-old during his time at Rennes, but Madrid beat them to his signature. He has since developed into a top-class player.
Camavinga was hampered by a knee injury at the start of the season, but he has been a regular in midfield under manager Carlo Ancelotti since his comeback.
He has won 6.8 duels won per league appearance alongside 6.8 recoveries and 2.3 tackles. He has completed 88 percent of his passes with one assist to his name.
Aside from his regular midfield role, Camavinga has also impressed from the left-back position at Madrid.
In our view, United have no chance of prising him away from the Champions League holders.
The £83 million-rated star is one of the best young midfielders in world football and he is unlikely to contemplate a move to a club, who remain in regular transition.
Camavinga would be a brilliant upgrade on Casemiro for United. He is better with the ball at his feet and has the ability to retain possession better while making more recoveries.
However, a move to Old Trafford is unlikely to materialise unless the midfielder pushes for a new challenge elsewhere. That does not appear like happening at the moment.
