Kenny Jackett, the softly spoken, gracious and determined former Wolverhampton Wanderers manager who steadied the club after crisis, has died aged 64.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, he arrived in 2013 with Wolves in the third tier after back-to-back relegations from the Premier League, inherited a harmful culture from Dean Saunders and restored pride.

He halted the slide and stormed League One in 2013-14, collecting a record 103 points and the title, with highlights including a 6-4 over Rotherham and the '10K to MK' win at MK Dons on 29 March 2014, when Liam McAlinden headed a late 1-0 winner to go six points clear.

Back in the Championship in 2014-15, Wolves missed the play-offs by goal difference as Nouha Dicko, Benik Afobe and Bakary Sako led the line.

He left in 2016, eight days after Fosun’s takeover, departing with dignity and later returning for club events. His groundwork from 2013 underpinned the resurgence that followed.

Jackett made 428 appearances for Watford and won 31 Wales caps, then managed Millwall, Swansea, Rotherham, Portsmouth and Leyton Orient. His final post was director of football at Gillingham, stepping down for medical reasons in November 2024.

He is remembered at Molineux as a gentleman and a winner. Thoughts are with his wife Samantha, sons David and Ryan, and all who knew him.
