Although a host of Manchester City players withdrew from international duty earlier this week, there are still plenty of City players featuring for their nations. Last night saw five City players feature for their countries in UEFA Nations League action and Conmebol World Cup qualifying matches. Here is a round-up of how five of City’s players performed overnight.
Erling Haaland scored one and provided an assist in Norway’s 4-1 Nations League victory over Slovenia. A brace from Antonio Nusa and goals from Haaland and Jens Petter Hauge were enough for Norway to pick up a convincing win. Benjamin Sesko scored Slovenia’s goal.
For Haaland, he put in a superb all-around display. He could’ve had a hat trick on another night but his dominant display set the tone for Norway. Manchester City will be hoping that Haaland can bring the form he showed last night back to the Etihad for next weekend’s clash with Tottenham.
Kyle Walker and Rico Lewis both started for England in their 3-nil win over Greece. Goals from Ollie Watkins and Curtis Jones and an own goal from Vlachodimos saw Lee Carsley’s side pick up a win.
Rico Lewis and Kyle Walker both performed well for England. A positive for England was that Kyle Walker got through the game and looked to be returning to form. City needs their captain to lift his game, and his performance last night was a positive sign.
Ederson and Savinho both started for Brazil in their 1-all draw with Venezuela. Brazil’s Conmebol World Cup qualifying campaign has failed to reach any great heights and that continued overnight. Raphinha opened the scoring for Brazil, but his goal was cancelled out by Segovia, which helped Venezuela secure a draw.
Savinho played 68 minutes before being substituted. He put in a lively display but couldn’t help Brazil pick up a win. Ederson was serviceable in goal but will disappointed to have conceded on the night.
