There has been plenty of good news on the injury front for Manchester City this week. One such piece of good news is the fact that Erling Haaland has trained all week ahead of City’s Premier League fixture against Southampton. The hope is that Haaland is fit enough to start at St. Mary’s so he can begin to fit into the new system Pep Guardiola has implemented. In an interview published by Rob Dawson for ESPN, Haaland has explained that he is ready to go in terms of his fitness. It seems that a key weapon for Manchester City is set to return to the pitch.
In an interview with ESPN, Erling Haaland explained that it was horrible to be injured. But he added that he is now ready to go and is full of energy. Speaking on his recovery from the ankle injury he sustained against Bournemouth, Haaland said: “It was horrible to be injured, but what can you do? You have to recover as quickly as you can and to come back as fit as you can. Now I’m back with loads of energy. I’m feeling good and moving good, and I’m ready.”
Erling Haaland’s importance to Manchester City is well known. He is City’s top-scorer for this season with 30 goals in all competitions. But his presence on the pitch does create headaches for City’s opponents. Teams are often forced to double mark Haaland which creates space for his teammates to thrive. One player who could benefit from Haaland’s imminent return is Omar Marmoush. The space Haaland opens up could see the Egyptian international prosper. There is the potential of the pair developing a devastating partnership. The sooner Haaland is back on the pitch the quicker those two can play together.
But more important than that, it seems that one of Manchester City’s key weapons is ready to return to the pitch. Haaland’s return could be a huge boost to City’s chase for Champions League qualification and aid their bid to beat Crystal Palace in next weekend’s FA Cup final.
