Four Inter Milan players are reportedly knocking on the door of the starting lineup in what could spark a change in the hierarchy.

Last season, Simone Inzaghi had an almost defined pecking order. He often deployed the same starting lineup on big occasions, unless injuries or suspensions forced him to change.

But according to La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInterNews, we might witness a change of the guard this season.

The pink newspaper names four stars who are pushing for starting roles this season.

The first one on the list is Davide Frattesi. Inzaghi considered the 25-year-old as a super-sub last term.

The Italian proved his worth on several occasions, showcasing a knack for scoring decisive last-minute goals, only for the manager to leave him on the bench the following match.

Nevertheless, the former Sassuolo man won’t settle for a secondary role anymore.

This season, Frattesi has been showing signs of improvement as he appears eager to carve himself a starting berth.

Last weekend, he had a fine cameo in the 2-2 draw against Genoa, proving to be an upgrade on Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Therefore, the Italian will be looking to overtake the Armenian veteran in the pecking and become a regular feature alongside Nicolo Barella and Hakan Calhanoglu.

The source adds that Frattesi isn’t the only threat to Mkhitaryan’s starting spot. Piotr Zielinski is also eyeing the same role.

The Pole has recently returned from injury and will be looking to earn his first call-up of the season.

Elsewhere, fellow new signing Mehdi Taremi will be looking to offer some competition for Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram, something that was non-existent last season.

Finally, Josep Martinez believes in his chances to usurp Yann Sommer between the posts.

The latter will have to improve on his unconvincing showing from last week to ward off the Spaniard’s threat.
