It was expected that Nathan Ake would leave Manchester City this summer. Ake wasn’t surplus to requirements at City. Far from it. However, the rise of Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis did look to have limited Ake’s opportunities to play regularly next season. Nathan Ake was a reliable squad member for his team during the 2025-26 season. As always, he never let his team down when called upon last season.

Now it has been revealed that Ake will leave Manchester City to sign for Turkish giants Fenerbahce. Ake will leave City after making an immense contribution to Manchester City’s success. He was a great squad member for Pep Guardiola’s side and Ake never put a foot wrong on the pitch during his trophy-laden spell at City.

Strangely, Fenerbahce confirmed the signing of Nathan Ake on their official X account. However, as Richard Jolly reported for The Independent, Manchester City were caught by surprise by the Turkish giants announcement. Manchester City’s stance at the time of Fenerbahce’s announcement was that positive negotiations between the two clubs were continuing to take place. As per Jolly’s report, City were hoping to sell Ake for £7 million plus £1.5 million in add-ons.

Later in the day, Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Nathan Ake was set to sign for Fenerbahce. As per Romano’s report Ake wanted a new challenge following his success spell at Manchester City. Also, personal terms between Ake and Fenerbahce have been agreed.

Nathan Ake signed for Manchester City from Bournemouth for £41 million in the summer of 2020. The Dutch international went on to make 177 appearances for the club. Ake was a key member of Pep Guardiola’s side as they went on to dominate English football. During his time at was a model of consistency whether or was playing at centre-back or at left-back. Ake helped City win 12 major trophies during his time at Manchester City. He won four Premier League titles, two FA Cup and Carabao Cup titles, the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup and the FA Community Shield.
