There is no doubt that this has been a great season for everyone associated with FC Barcelona. The Blaugranes are on course to winning a domestic treble, and made it as far as the semi-final stage of the UEFA Champions League, which remains a very visible improvement in the Catalan team’s performances.
Several players have played at a very high level for Barcelona, with the likes of Raphinha, Lamine Yamal, Inigo Martinez, Jules Kounde, Pedri, Alejandro Balde, and Pau Cubarsi etc., all having an incredible season.
However, the one player for whom this season has been truly special has been the goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny, who was enjoying his retirement from professional football only a few months ago, but has played an important part in helping his team approach the end of this season on a positive note.
After the last El Clasico, the Pole was unable to contain his emotions, and tears rolled down his cheeks. As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the goalkeeper has now opened up on this episode. The Polish veteran recognised this moment as wonderful:
“I always try to control my emotions and not show them—neither the positive nor the negative ones. But after the final whistle, it was very hard for me. My eyes filled with tears. It was a wonderful moment.”

Szczesny went on to highlight Barcelona as the best team in the world:
“I was retired, and now I find myself with this. It may seem strange because Inter eliminated us, but this Barça right now is the best team in the world. What these young players are doing is impressive and deserves to be rewarded. It’s a shame we couldn’t win everything, but we came close and something very important has been built for the future.”
In addition to Barcelona, the Pole also praised one of his rivals, Kylian Mbappe, who scored a hat-trick against him in the last match:
“Honestly, I admire Mbappé’s mentality. Even when things get really tough for his team, he doesn’t give up. I think he’s the player who has scored the most goals against me. In four or five games, he’s scored eight or nine goals.”
