The current CD Castellón probably would not exist without captain Aarón Torlá’s work during the post-relegation years. Now out of the professional game, he reflected on those days and the club’s revival on the PPOdcast produced with Micrea Film Projects.
Recently turned 38, he is a director at Vilafamés, his father’s village, teaches and prioritises family. Raised in Castelló and often in Vilafamés, he came through Roda then Villarreal with future tennis professional Roberto Bautista.
Promotion from the reserves followed, with sporting director Dani Barroso calling him up. He debuted in Segunda against Numancia under Pepe Murcia, a “piel de gallina” moment.
Torlá highlights Mario Rosas, saying it was “imposible quitarle el balón”. He recalls Rosas playing half a season with a damaged right ankle, using only his left for passes and shots without anyone noticing.
Then came the collapse and Tercera, with Torlá captain at 22-23. He fronted a strike in the La Llosa match that never took place and called the boards of Fernando Miralles and Jesús Jiménez “engaño continuo”. Players were asked to sign papers shifting club debts to companies.
He says that year taught him “derecho laboral” and public speaking. Seeking joy, he joined Conquense and won promotion to Segunda B, then returned for a grim Tercera stint under David Cruz, left for Borriol, and finished with friends at Vilafamés.
Torlá sees Castellón with satisfaction and healthy envy, from poor training pitches to new Ciudad Deportiva, urging fans to savour Segunda División and remember the journey.
