Blackburn Rovers' suspended game against Ipswich Town is set to be replayed in full after a decision by the EFL.

The game had been suspended in the 79th minute due to torrential rain with the pitch becoming unplayable.

Rovers had been 1-0 up thanks to Todd Cantwell's penalty in the 59th after Jacob Greaves had been sent off early into the second half.

Valérien Ismaël may well feel aggrieved that Ipswich have now been given the chance to start a fresh after being just over 10 minutes away plus stoppage time from earning all three points.

"The Board comprehensively considered all options available in accordance with the Regulations alongside representations made by both Clubs," a statement from the EFL said.

"It was ultimately decided by a majority that the fixture should be replayed in full. The decision follows recent precedents relating to abandoned fixtures and is intended to uphold the integrity of the League competition which should, wherever possible, be based on a complete set of fixtures played to a conclusion on the day.

"Following due consideration, the three Championship Directors abstained from the vote.

"The Board recognised that this was an incredibly difficult decision and agreed to consult Clubs on the best approach to the development of new guidance to be considered in the event of a match abandonment.

"A new date for the fixture will be confirmed by the respective Clubs in due course."

Both teams will be back in action this weekend with Rovers facing a trip to take on Charlton Athletic while the Tractor Boys will host Portsmouth.
