Abel Ferreira has clocked five years, three months and 15 days at Palmeiras, moving fifth on Brazil’s all-time list on Thursday after edging past Telê Santana’s São Paulo tenure by a single day.

According to Nosso Palestra, the Portuguese is level with Oswaldo Brandão as Palmeiras’ most decorated manager on 10 trophies, underlining a tenure that has become one of the club’s defining eras.

Ferreira made his debut on 5 November 2020 with a 1-0 Copa do Brasil win against Red Bull Bragantino. His staff have since overseen 407 matches, delivering 236 victories, 95 draws and 76 defeats.

Only Flávio Costa, Henry Welfare, Lula and Amadeu Teixeira have longer continuous spells in Brazilian football, Teixeira’s 53 years at América (AM) the benchmark.

He is the most successful foreign coach in Brazilian football with 10 trophies, the foreign record holder for Brasileirão with two and Campeonato Paulista with three, and the only foreign manager to win the Copa do Brasil in 2020.

Ferreira called the milestone a source of pride and credited collective work across leadership, staff and supporters. Club president Leila Pereira congratulated him and extended his deal in December to December 2027, aligned with the end of her second term.
