Abel Ferreira has reflected on the dismissal of Filipe Luís by Flamengo, using the episode to discuss how Brazilian clubs treat coaches. The Palmeiras manager spoke on Tuesday.
Flamengo sacked Filipe Luís on Monday, despite an almost perfect 2025 that delivered the Copa Libertadores and the Brasileirão, having appointed him in October 2024. According to Coluna Do Fla, Leonardo Jardim is expected to take over, with his arrival in Rio anticipated on Tuesday night at Galeão.
Ferreira said Brazil is not for amateurs, that certain practices are cultural and not everyone must think alike. He added that he often urges club directors to improve and innovate, but believes some habits will not change.
He rejected a view that a coach is the best in the world when he wins and the worst when he loses. He said he tries to be the same in victory and defeat, simply happier after a win and more down after a loss.
As debate continues around the decision, Flamengo turn to the Carioca final against Fluminense at the Maracanã on Sunday at 18:00 Brasília time.
