AC Milan and Cagliari serve up the first taste of Serie A action in 2026 with a meeting at Unipol Domus on Friday.
With both teams coming off wins, they head into the new year on a high note as the 2025-26 campaign nears its midway point.
Returning to league duty 10 days after their Italian Super Cup defeat to Napoli, Milan responded strongly with a confident 3-0 triumph over Verona at the San Siro on Sunday.
Christian Pulisic’s first-half stoppage-time goal put Max Allegri’s men in the lead. Building on that momentum, Christopher Nkunku then scored his first league goals early in the second half to secure a convincing win.
I Rossoneri sit one point behind Inter Milan in a tight Scudetto race with four points separating the top five.
A Friday win would temporarily put Milan top, and their strong record in this fixture bodes well for them.
Milan are unbeaten in their last 15 meetings with Cagliari. However, both games last season ended in draws.
Meanwhile, after a 10-match winless run across all competitions from September 27 to December 3, Cagliari have turned a corner, collecting two wins and a draw in their next four games.
A comeback 2-1 triumph over Torino last time out moved Fabio Pisacane’s men six points clear of the relegation zone, albeit having played one game more.
Gli Isolani are unbeaten in their last three home matches, collecting five points during that spell.
Despite their positive run, Friday’s hosts have conceded the fourth-most home goals in the division (12), which presents an opportunity for Milan, as they have failed to score only once in away league matches this term.
