Rasmus Hojlund Moves Closer to Manchester United Exit Amid AC Milan Interest

Rasmus Hojlund’s time at Manchester United looks increasingly likely to end, with the striker now open to a move away from Old Trafford. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, his desire to remain in Manchester despite Benjamin Sesko’s arrival has faded after receiving confirmation from the club that he is no longer part of Ruben Amorim’s plans.

Zero minutes in the friendly against Fiorentina was an early warning, and United have made it clear that his situation will not change when the Premier League begins next weekend. Hojlund has accepted this reality and is now considering his future, which comes as welcome news to AC Milan, who have placed him at the top of their shortlist for a new centre forward.

Milan’s Negotiation Path

Talks between the two clubs have intensified in recent days, both through intermediaries and direct contact. A framework for the deal has been agreed in principle, with Milan pushing for a loan with an option to buy. The Rossoneri value the player at around €35 million, proposing a loan fee of €3-4 million with a permanent transfer set at €30-32 million.

United’s stance is firmer. They are seeking at least €7-8 million for the loan and a total package worth €40-45 million, including bonuses. The difference in valuation remains, but there is optimism it can be bridged quickly once Hojlund gives full approval to the move.

Hojlund is said to be attracted by the idea of playing for Milan, and contact between the club and his representatives has reinforced that interest.

Key Figures Involved

It became clear progress was being made when, on the same day Koni De Winter visited Casa Milan, sporting director Igli Tare was seen at Milanello alongside Zlatan Ibrahimovic to meet with Massimiliano Allegri.

“Negotiations for the striker have clearly reached a fever pitch, and Max can also play his part by calling the player to let him know he’s interested. The club on Via Aldo Rossi, in fact, wants to see if they can secure Hojlund within a few days. Let’s say by the end of the week. Having seen the striker’s initial openness to moving from Manchester, they now need to act quickly to prevent other clubs from tempting the Dane,” the report stated.

While Milan do not have European football this season, the lure of the Champions League from rival clubs could influence the player’s decision. This urgency has led Milan to aim for swift negotiations, similar to the rapid 48-hour deal that secured De Winter.

Alternative Targets

Milan are also preparing contingency plans should Hojlund prove unattainable. When securing Francesco Camarda’s loan to Lecce, they enquired about Nikola Krstovic, valued at €30 million including bonuses. However, Roma and other clubs are also tracking the forward.

Other names on the list include Bayer Leverkusen’s Victor Boniface and Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson, with talks held over the weekend via an intermediary in London. Milan remain committed to landing Hojlund, but will pivot to other options if the deal stalls.

Our View – EPL Index Analysis

For Manchester United, this feels like a rapid shift in circumstances. Hojlund was signed as a long-term attacking option, but within a short space of time and a managerial change, he appears surplus to requirements. Fans may feel frustrated that such a promising young forward is being moved on without an extended chance to prove himself, especially given the fee paid for him and his age.

For Milan, this is an opportunity that fits their recruitment model perfectly: a young striker with proven potential in a top league, available on a structured deal that limits initial financial exposure. However, the challenge will be convincing United to lower their demands, and fending off interest from clubs able to offer Champions League football.

Both sets of supporters will be watching developments closely. For United, the focus will be on maximising value and freeing up funds for reinforcements elsewhere. For Milan, it will be about acting quickly enough to ensure the Danish forward is wearing red and black rather than lining up for a European rival.
