Currently, the Lions are residing in mid-table in the Championship and may be looking to push towards the top six in the second half of the campaign.

One of the standout players for this season has been 19-year-old Romain Esse, who has put in a string of impressive displays on the right wing and has earned a Premier League move.

Having spent much of last season on the fringes of the squad, Esse’s emergence will provide hope for Millwall's young prospects that they can breakthrough in the near future.

So, at Football League World, we have detailed two exciting youngsters that could save Millwall millions in transfer fees.

Adam Mayor

The first pick of our duo is Adam Mayor.

The 19-year-old signed for Millwall from Morecambe last January for an undisclosed fee and has so far made five appearances for the Lions.

While he hasn’t had regular opportunities to showcase his talents in the Championship yet, the potential he demonstrated at the Shrimpers, which secured him a move to the Den, should give supporters plenty of reason for optimism.

In the first half of 2023-24, he managed to provide five assists and also netted three goals as he built a nice partnership with Michael Mellon. Looking beyond the surface, his expected assists per 90 minutes of 0.25 and an average of 1.83 chances created per game highlights his ability to provide for those around him.

This is something that Millwall could rely on in the future, with the Lions struggling to score consistently for a number of seasons now.

Mayor is certainly a player to keep an eye on then, and he could be the next winger to emerge from the Den's production line.

Ra’ees Bangura-Williams

A player who grabbed the spotlight last Monday night was attack-minded midfielder Ra’ees Bangura-Williams.

Introduced in the 75th minute as a substitute for the aforementioned Mayor, the 20-year-old wasted no time making his mark. On debut, he showcased his skill by weaving his way through the Dagenham and Redbridge defence before slotting home a precise finish to score a memorable first goal for Millwall.

Joining from non-league's Tooting & Mitcham last year, this was his first experience for the Lions first-team, and it has to be said that he looks one for the future.

Speaking after the game, Alex Neil heaped praise on the youngster.

“I think if you give young players an opportunity, they can surprise you so much in terms of what they’re capable of doing,” Neil said.

“I think young Ra’ees showed incredible maturity in that position.

“He’s glided past the centre-back, it’s supreme confidence to then go and slide it under the goalkeeper."

Bangura-Williams will undoubtedly be thrilled with the opportunity Neil provided, and after making such a strong impression, there’s every chance we’ll see more of him as the season progresses.

To make his chances even greater, last week the club confirmed that he had signed a new "long-term" deal, so he seems poised to have a future at Millwall.
