Gana Gueye recently opened up. The Africa Cup of Nations champion looked back at AFCON 2025, especially the final. The Everton midfielder spoke about the towel incident in his chat with Onze Mondial.

"I almost forgot, there was also the towel story. I was saying: 'But what are they doing?' Every goalkeeper has their towel, after all. What was their problem with the towels? I didn't get it. Honestly, with everything that happened, I'd need days to tell the whole story of that crazy final. There were also the fights in the stands. And during all of that, we had to stay focused. When I saw Achraf Hakimi pick up the towel and throw it, I told him: 'Achraf, not you, anyone but you.' He replied: 'No, I didn't know.' You mention the trophy ceremony in an empty stadium, but I can assure you I didn't even notice the stands were empty. We were in our own world, just seeing our families—that's what mattered. In any case, Morocco organized a magnificent AFCON, with great stadiums, beautiful pitches, and fantastic conditions.", he revealed.
