French defender ends speculation over his future

After months of talks, Bayern finally secure Upamecano’s future
Bayern Munich confirmed a new contract for defender Dayot Upamecano extending his stay until 2030.
Bayern Munich announced on Friday that Dayot Upamecano has signed a long-term contract extension keeping him at the club until 2030.
The deal follows lengthy negotiations that included moments of tension. By securing the French defender’s future, Bayern have moved to block interest from other top clubs including Real Madrid who were monitoring his situation.
After signing the new deal, Upamecano expressed his happiness at staying in Munich. He said he was pleased to continue playing for Bayern and praised the quality of the squad and the coaching staff.
Speaking to the club’s official website, the defender said the team shares big goals and strong mentality.
He added that he always gives his best for his teammates, wants to keep clean sheets and aims to win as many trophies as possible with Bayern.
Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund also welcomed the agreement. He said Upamecano brings speed, physical strength and good reading of the game, qualities that fit Bayern’s style perfectly.
Freund added that the Frenchman has developed into a top-level defender and leader during his time at the club stressing that his contribution is very important for the team’s balance and success.
Upamecano joined Bayern in summer 2021 from RB Leipzig and has since become a regular starter.
He has made 231 appearances in all competitions and helped the club win the Bundesliga title three time.
