So it’s no wonder that his name continues to be followed with great interest in Major League Soccer

In an interview with Abendzeitung München, MLS vice-president Dan Courtemanche was extremely positive about the Bayern star and made no secret of the fact that he would like to see Davies return to the North American league. „The best in the world play here. The GOAT Lionel Messi plays in the MLS. We also have legends like Thomas Müller and Alphonso Davies, the best left-back in the world, has already played in the MLS,“ explained Courtemanche

The MLS official was particularly clear in his assessment of the Canadian: „I would like him to come back. He is a wonderful person. I love watching him at FC Bayern,“ emphasized the vice president of the North American professional league

Davies began his professional career with the Vancouver Whitecaps before moving to FC Bayern in early 2019. Since then, the Canadian has developed into one of the most successful players in the history of North American soccer

He has won numerous national titles and the Champions League with the Munich club and established himself as one of the world’s best players in his position

Despite his success in Europe, Davies still has close ties to his home country and is regarded as the face of the soccer boom in Canada, which has gathered pace in recent years

Many fans are hoping that the 25-year-old will be fit in time, especially with a view to the home World Cup. Following his muscle injury in the Champions League semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain, his participation in the tournament opener is still questionable

Courtemanche is also keeping a close eye on the situation. „I also hope he can play at the World Cup. I want to see him on the international stage,“ explained the MLS boss

Bayern are banking on Davies for the long term

Even if the statements from the USA are likely to cause a stir, there is currently no danger for FC Bayern

Davies has extended his contract in Munich on a long-term basis and remains one of the most important players in Vincent Kompany’s team

What is interesting, however, is the importance that the full-back continues to have in North America. Courtemanche’s statements impressively show that Davies has long been far more than just a successful professional footballer. For many, he is seen as a symbolic figure of a soccer region that is becoming ever stronger

It remains to be seen whether he will actually return to the MLS at some point, but the Bayern star’s current focus is clearly on his recovery and the upcoming World Cup, where Davies hopes to finally make a splash on the big stage with Canada.
