Chandra Davidson will continue at Benfica after the Canada international agreed a new contract with the women’s team.
According to Glorioso 1904, the 28-year-old’s extension will be signed after she returns from holiday. Davidson joined Benfica three seasons ago, having featured for Torreense in 2020/21 and Sporting between 2021 and 2023.
Her decision to stay comes as several leading players depart. Carole Costa, a 36-year-old Portugal defender with 191 international appearances, has left, as have 25-year-old Nigeria defender Christy Ucheibe, who is expected to move to women’s football in Saudi Arabia, and 33-year-old Spain forward Cristina Martín-Prieto, who earned a senior call-up while at Benfica.
In 2025/26, Davidson made 31 appearances under Ivan Baptista, scoring five goals and providing seven assists.
Since arriving, she has played 84 official matches, starting 60, with 19 goals and 13 assists, underlining her impact for the six-time national champions.
Despite securing Davidson’s stay, Benfica have yet to announce any new signings for the women’s squad after multiple exits this window, as they aim to maintain domestic dominance and win a seventh straight title.
