Following the German national team’s early elimination, Jamal Musiala underwent surgery. This news initially caused a stir, but it quickly became clear that it was a routine procedure. Now the exact timeline for the playmaker’s recovery is clear. 

About a year after the serious injury he sustained at the Club World Cup—when Musiala suffered a lower-leg fracture that was quite complicated—the metal in his leg had to be removed.

This is a procedure that is completely normal and is bound to happen at some point. However, the DFB team’s early exit from the World Cup played an important role in the timing, as kicker now reports. This gives Musiala time to recover after the procedure and still return to the field with the team in a timely manner without missing any competitive matches.

Musiala: Here’s the timeline leading up to his comeback

First, the good news: Musiala won’t be out for long at FC Bayern. Although part of the squad has already completed performance testing and some national team players are returning to Munich in the coming days, the national team player won’t be falling too far behind.

That’s because the procedure wasn’t major, and the recovery period will be over soon. The reasoning was that it was better to have the metal removed now, during the summer, rather than during the short winter break, which would have resulted in him missing more time.

But now for the specific timeline. It shouldn’t be long before Musiala is back on the field. While the rest of the squad—with the exception of Harry Kane and Michael Olise—will embark on their Asian tour on August 1, Musiala is set to follow his training program at Säbener Straße. He arrived there for treatment for the first time on Tuesday and now has a few more days to catch his breath before he’s set to resume training on July 31.

The clear plan is for him to rejoin team training shortly after the Asian tour and train at full intensity. The clear goal: He wants to be part of the squad for the Super Cup against Dortmund on August 22, or at the latest six days later, when the Bundesliga kicks off again.
