After the Kane coup: will Bayern snap up the next England superstar?

After Harry Kane, João Palhinha and Michael Olise, another top player from the island, Cole Palmer, could be the next Premier League star to come into focus

Munich have been scouting the English market intensively for some time – and, according to a report in the British Sun, have now become aware of the Chelsea FC attacker. The 23-year-old is one of the most eye-catching players in the Premier League and, with his profile, fits perfectly into the record champions‘ requirements

Palmer is a versatile attacking player who can play both centrally as a hanging midfielder and on the wing. It is precisely this flexibility that makes him particularly interesting for coach Vincent Kompany, whose playing philosophy is based on dynamic and variable attacking players

With his creativity, goal threat and intelligence, the England international would theoretically fit perfectly into Munich’s system

Dissatisfaction as a possible trigger

According to the Sun, Palmer is unhappy with the current development at Chelsea FC, especially the tactical adjustments under new coach Liam Rosenior

Added to this is the Blues‘ sporting situation. Chelsea are currently fighting for the international places and are in danger of missing out on qualification for the Champions League. Should this scenario materialize, the attacking star’s willingness to move could increase significantly

Despite the interest, however, a transfer currently seems extremely unlikely. Chelsea regard Palmer as unsellable and have tied him down long-term until 2033

A deal would also be a huge financial challenge: his current market value is around 110 million euros, but the actual transfer fee is more likely to be in the region of 170 to 180 million euros, according to reports

A sum that does not fit in with FC Bayern’s current transfer strategy

Competition from Europe

In addition to Munich, Real Madrid and Manchester United are also said to be keeping a close eye on the situation, meaning competition for Palmer would be fierce in the event of a potential transfer

As appealing as the scenario sounds, a transfer of Cole Palmer to FC Bayern is hardly realistic at the moment. The financial hurdle is too high and Chelsea FC’s stance is too clear.
