Media interest in the EFL remains as constant as it has ever been, with several former Championship, League One and League Two stars often seen giving their verdict on the hottest topics and top stars currently plying their trade for one of the 72 clubs across the three divisions.

Examples of recently-retired players often part of Sky Sports' matchday coverage include Reading's former title-winning captain, Jobi McAnuff, ex-Birmingham City, West Bromwich Albion and Hull City centre-back Curtis Davies and former Ipswich Town stalwart, Luke Chambers.

At present, the sole focus on the minds of current players will be achieving their short and long-term aims for their current clubs and playing careers, although it wouldn't be surprising to see a handful of those names feature as pundits in the not-too-distant future.

With that being said, Football League World has put AI-based chatbot, ChatGPT, to the test, to see if it can predict one current player in the second tier who is most likely to become a pundit after finishing their on-pitch exploits.

AI predicts Sheffield United ace Gus Hamer to have a future career in punditry

There are several options and logics which AI could have decided on to make its prediction, but its final choice was current Sheffield United ace and last season's Championship Player of the Year, Gus Hamer.

AI believes that the midfield maestro's personality and current skills on the pitch would make him an ideal candidate for the role, with his aforementioned award showcasing his great tactical awareness, which would come in handy and is often one of the facets which TV viewers find most intriguing.

On top of this, it has also been predicted that the former Coventry City man could become a strong co-commentator due to the aforementioned skills and personality traits.

AI also hasn't ruled out the possibility of Hamer becoming a regular fixture on our screens whilst still playing, which, again, isn't beyond the realms of possibility. This has been done before by several players on weekends where their team aren't involved in a fixture, or if they are recovering from a long-term injury absence.

AI believes Gus Hamer stands out above fellow Championship stars to suit future punditry role

As well as declaring plenty of reasons as to why Hamer would be ideal in the world of punditry, AI also believes he stands out above fellow Championship stars in this field, but also believes they could become pundits in the future depending on circumstances.

The chatbot also listed Middlesbrough's creative duo of Hayden Hackney and Finn Azaz as potential pundits, largely down to the fact they also have great reading of the game from deep-lying and advanced midfield positions, albeit they are both significantly younger than the Dutch-Brazilian, meaning there is a chance one of them could lead this prediction in the coming years.

It also predicted that Jay Stansfield, who offered a glimpse into his professional and personal life during a lengthy segment of Birmingham City's recently-aired Amazon Prime docuseries, could also follow suit due to his ever-growing leadership skills, as well as offering insight into a completely different perspective through being Blues' main forward and poster-boy of their rebuild under Knighthead Capital Management.

On the whole, these are all fairly reasonable calls from ChatGPT, with it extremely understandable as to why they currently believe Hamer is the standout candidate right now, although it remains to be seen whether he would feature as a pundit in England or the Netherlands, with recent reports suggesting that the playmaker would like to return to his home country if a move away from Bramall Lane arose.
