Ajax have confirmed that defender Jakov Medić is set to join Championship side Norwich. The two sides have agreed a deal which will see the Croatian swap Amsterdam for Norwich this summer. The 26-year-old spent last season away from the Eredivisie on loan at Bundesliga side VFL Bochum, who were relegated to Bundesliga 2. It is unclear how much money will come in for the defender, who was under contract in Amsterdam until 2028.

Medić only joined the side back in the summer of 2023. He cost €3m from another German side, St Pauli. He only made nine appearances for the side during the 2023/2024 season, scoring once. Last year he played 23 games for Bochum, scoring once. Prior to being at St Pauli, Medić had two successful seasons with Wehen Wiesbaden. The Croatian defender has spent most of his career playing in the German second tier.

For Ajax, it was always unlikely that he would feature so the sale is hardly surprising given the length of contract. It does once again put a spotlight on poor recruitment at the club in recent seasons, given the length of contract they gave the defender for very little return on the pitch.
