“We feel proud,” Marotta said, “Inter is the Italian club that best represents our football in Europe. This is the seventh consecutive season we’ve been in and this, if you don’t mind, brings me great pride.”

“Of course, we are starting in a strange competition again,” the president continued, “considering that last season PSG were eliminated in the regular season, then advanced to the play-offs and won the title.”

Marotta underlined the importance of today’s game and getting off to a winning start.

“This shows how ever match is incredibly important. Today, we’re approaching the match in this stadium with the knowledge that we’re competitive but with respect to our opponents.”

Today, Inter and Milan edged closer to purchasing the land around San Siro ahead of a dramatic redevelopment that could see a new stadium built adjacent to the pre-existing structure.

On the announcement, Marotta said:

“It’s a significant step, just as it is important to have a stadium that meets the requirements of modernity, like this one.”

“Although it’s dated,” he continued, “it’s been there for thirty years but you’ve seen the comfort and convenience it offers.”

“In Italy we’re bottom of the league; we need to adapt, so the stadium asset represents a significant asset for all Italian clubs, as well as a comfortable home for the fans. The council has approved it and we’re awaiting the City Council’s consultation next week. That will be the final act and we hope for the best.”
