Saudi Pro League giants Al Nassr and Cristiano Ronaldo have agreed to extend the Portuguese icon's contract for one more year, according to a report.

Ronaldo signed a two-and-a-half-year deal when he forced an exit from Manchester United and officially joined Al Nassr in January 2023. The veteran forward, who turned 40 at the start of February, was set to become a free agent in the summer and has made it abundantly clear that he has no intention of retiring just yet.

Al Nassr are expected to reap the rewards of Ronaldo's remarkable longevity for at least another season after it was reported by AFP that a one-year extension had been verbally agreed between the player and club.

The French publication quoted an unnamed official at the Saudi outfit who warned that the deal "has not been signed yet" before adding: "An announcement will be made over the coming days."

Despite his seniority - Ronaldo is older than the manager of Saudi rivals Al Ahli - the serial record-breaker remains a potent force for Al Nassr. The club captain has started all but one of the team's 19 league games this season, racking up a division-leading 16 top-flight goals.

However, recent activity across the free-spending division has hinted at a shift in focus away from ageing icons towards young stars. Al Nassr have embodied this approach with their eye-watering acquisition of 21-year-old striker Jhon Duran.

Ronaldo has been spuriously linked with moves to Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City and Jose Mourinho's Fenerbahce, but has always stressed his admiration for Al Nassr, a club that has funded his reported £177m annual salary for the past two years.

"For me," Ronaldo said at the start of 2025, "the most important thing is to be professional, to push hard, respect the club, respect your contract." That contract may soon stretch to June 2026.
