Alexander Isak confirms he WANTS Liverpool move

Liverpool have been well aware for weeks that Alexander Isak wants to leave Newcastle.

The presumption is that he wants to join Liverpool, with all the reports claiming that personal terms aren't an issue. Right now, the Reds are one of the few clubs that can afford to negotiate for him.

His attitude towards Newcastle has been polarising, although the Liverpool fans have seen it as a positive thing that he's committed to do whatever it takes to make his transfer happen, even if the way he's going about it suggests that the Reds could be in a similar position in a few years time.

Nonetheless, his latest move appears to have confirmed that Liverpool are his favoured destination, regardless of whether he leaves this summer or not. His future on Tyneside is a total non-starter.

Isak wants rid of Newcastle connection

The reports from a few weeks ago by David Ornstein at The Athletic cleared up all doubt about where Isak's head is at. He had made it clear that he would not play for Newcastle ever again.

On Saturday, that information was proved correct as he was not included in the squad to play against Aston Villa in the Magpies' first Premier League game of the season. In essence, he's on strike and until he gets what he wants, he'll refuse to participate with the club's activities. After all, terminating his contract isn't going to happen, he's a £100m plus asset. His value to Newcastle is huge.

So with a few weeks left of the summer, we have a predicament. Liverpool will not pay the £150m asking price, a negotiation will have to take place to agree a deal which benefits all parties equally.

The cost will have to drop and Newcastle will have to start giving the Reds some encouragement that a deal could be reached, which they haven't done so far, since no forwards have joined the Tyneside club since Anthony Elanga joined earlier in July. Reports are suggesting that Brentford have upped Yoane Wissa's asking price to £50m and there has been no movement on any of their other targets.

Well, what happens next then? The indication we're getting right now is that a sale isn't going to happen since Newcastle don't have their affairs in order, and while that notion might appease fans of the Magpies, it fundamentally means that they'll be without a striker in their team until someone joins.

For Liverpool, even if Isak doesn't join this summer, there is a growing sense that he definitely wants to join the Reds at some point and while his Newcastle future was already in doubt, it appears as though he's mentally checked out of Eddie Howe's project. He wants no connection to Newcastle.

The reasoning behind such a statement is that Sami Mokbel of BBC Sport understands that Isak will not be present at the PFA Awards which will take place on Tuesday night. Of course, in terms of the sheer amount of media attention his presence would create, it's understandable that he'll miss it.

But the awards are to recognise his Player of the Season nomination for last season's efforts, and he could surely still attend the awards on a personal level, without having to do it 'as a Newcastle player'.

Although tacitly, he would be representing his club and his willingness to not do that tells a story.

The intel in the report adds the caveat that participants normally confirm their attendance 24 hours before the event and while Isak hasn't done that, it is possible that he might still participate in the proceedings, but you feel as that every effort is being taken to cut all remaining ties with Newcastle.

As such, the writing looks to be on the wall for his career until he gets the move he desires, which by all accounts appears to be Liverpool. It's just a matter of when rather than if he joins the Reds now.
