Alexander Isak paid tribute to the Newcastle United supporters following Saturday’s 1-0 win over Arsenal at St James’ Park.
The Magpies snapped a five-game winless run in the Premier League thanks to the Sweden international’s 12th minute goal.
The 25-year-old has now scored 12 goals in his last 12 home games in the top flight. Just under 62 percent of his top-flight goals (21 out of 34) since joining Newcastle have come at home.
“That was massive, against a big team,” Isak told TNT Sports. “It means a lot to the fans that we can win this game.
“It’s special of course, our fans are amazing every game, win or lose. So it gives you an extra boost. I have been successful here so hopefully I can keep going.”
Anthony Gordon provided a perfect cross into the penalty area for Isak to head the ball past Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya to secure their first win in the Premier League since mid-September.
“The cross was amazing, I just had to jump and put my head on the ball, so credit to him.”
The forward added it was “important” to take his chance when it came. “Arsenal have a strong defence and so it is a difficult task but I’m happy we could score today and keep a clean sheet.
“We’ve had a bad spell but hopefully this win can be a bit of an icebreaker for us.”
