FLW details the highest-paid player from each Championship club for the 2025-26 season.
The upcoming 2025-26 Championship season is set to be another enthralling campaign.
Southampton, Ipswich Town and Leicester City return to the second tier hoping to bounce back to the top-flight, while the latter will have to battle through an impending points deduction.
Meanwhile, American-owned Birmingham City and Wrexham will look to use their financial resources to push up the table. Charlton Athletic will also hope of being competitive following their play-off triumph under Nathan Jones.
As another Championship season approaches, full of twists and turns, FLW details the highest-paid player from each second tier club.
We must stress that all wages are ESTIMATES by Capology.
First up is Birmingham City, with the highest-paid player being Krystian Bielik.
The former Arsenal man is estimated to receive £20,000 a week, with the Poland international hoping he can help deliver further success in the West Midlands.
At Ewood Park, Todd Cantwell is the best paid player at Blackburn Rovers.
Formerly of Norwich City, the wideman earns £30,000 a week, with his vast experience at Championship level contributing to such a high pay packet.
Bristol City’s Luke McNally is the highest-paid player in the Robins squad, now Nahki Wells has departed Ashton Gate.
The Irish defender is on an estimated £20,000 a week, with Bristol City hoping he will be fit and available for the majority of the campaign to legislate for his wage.
Charlton Athletic will possess one of the lower wage budgets despite sealing a return to the Championship.
Experienced midfielder Luke Berry is their highest-paid player, estimated to be on £15,000 a week at The Valley. He will be aiming to use his four second-tier seasons with Luton Town to his advantage.
Coventry City’s best-paid player in the Sky Blues squad is Luis Binks, who is estimated to be on £30,000 a week.
The 23-year-old was rotated in and out of the first-team picture last season, and will aim to establish himself as more of a regular under Frank Lampard this upcoming term.
Derby County’s best paid player is central defender Matt Clarke, at an estimated £20,000 per week.
Clarke has an impressive pedigree in the second tier, amassing over 150 appearances for Middlesbrough, West Brom and the Rams, leading to his high salary.
Hull City have two players tied on the highest salaries.
Both Ryan Giles and Abdulkadir Omur both earn an estimated £30,000 a week.
It remains to be seen whether the Tigers will still facilitate such significant spending after the club suffered a three-window transfer embargo.
Ipswich Town also have two players who are the club’s highest earners.
Both Arijanet Muric and Dara O’Shea are believed to earn £35,000 a week at Portman Road.
Muric isn’t expected to play a significant role next season with Alex Palmer as the number one choice, although O’Shea should be a presence in the backline after recently agreeing a new contract.
Leicester City have one of the highest wage budgets in the division, estimated to pay over £1 million per week on salaries.
Harry Winks profits the most, estimated to be on a staggering £90,000 a week for a Championship outfit.
It remains to be seen whether cuts due to relegation have hampered his earnings, but you would believe so given Leicester’s current concerns with PSR rules.
Middlesbrough’s highest-paid player in the squad is Luke Ayling, believed to be on £30,000 per week.
Closing in on 300 appearances in the second tier, Ayling’s invaluable knowhow at Championship level is a major reason for his high wage.
He will look to use his experience to galvanise the squad and bring about a promotion push on Teesside.
