Alongside Guimaraes: The other PL player Man Utd could have held talks over after Romano confirms agency ‘meeting’

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Manchester United met with Bruno Guimaraes’ agents ‘a few weeks ago’.

However, the conversations weren’t necessarily regarding the Newcastle United skipper making a switch to Old Trafford.

United hold meeting with Bruno Guimaraes’ and Andrey Santos’ agency

Speaking on YouTube last night, Romano verified that a ‘meeting’ had taken place with Red Devils chiefs and Guimaraes’ representatives, although the exact nature of their discussions are unknown.

Bertolucci Sports represent a number of high-profile players across Europe, including one star who has been linked with United on numerous occasions: Andrey Santos.

Indeed, United have admired the Chelsea whiz for some time, but have never gone as far as submitting a formal offer or bid.

However, they did bring up Santos in their negotiations with the Blues over Alejandro Garnacho last summer, putting forth the prospect of a potential swap deal.

Nothing materialised due to Chelsea’s desire to keep hold of the Brazilian, so it remains to be seen if United would test their resolve again this year.

How Santos is faring this season

Santos, meanwhile, was made to endure a slow start to 2025/2026 while Enzo Maresca was in the dugout; he had made only 20 appearances across all competitions and started only four league games by the time Maresca was relieved of his duties on January 1, prompting murmurings that he might be on the move if the situation continued.

That was until Liam Rosenior was appointed only five days later, and the 21-year-old was almost instantaneously granted a starting role at the heart of Chelsea’s midfield.

During his loan with sister club Strasbourg, Santos was given the nod by then-manager Rosenior for every single Ligue 1 fixture he was available for, and even captained the side at various points throughout the campaign.

Alas, it looks pretty safe to say that Santos is highly regarded by the new head coach, so his place in the XI seems secure for the time being.
