América are closing in on a return to the Estadio Azteca, with their Liga MX meeting with Cruz Azul on 11 April scheduled for the venue. According to Americayya.net, the stadium reopens on 28 March when Mexico face Portugal.

The Cruz Azul fixture will kick off at 9:00pm.

Further games could follow there, notably Toluca on matchday 15 and Atlas on matchday 17. If América reach the Concachampions quarter-finals, they would host Inter Miami or Nashville at the Azteca.

For the liguilla and subsequent Concachampions rounds, the team would return to Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes. A permanent move back is slated for Apertura 2026, when the ground will be known as Estadio Banorte.

From Apertura 2026, there will be four teams using the stadium. The primary tenants will be Club América and América Femenil, with Cruz Azul and Atlante also playing there, the latter due to rejoin the first division next tournament.

Plans for the women’s sides of both clubs remain unclear, and for now they would not play at Estadio Banorte. The arrangement may not please América supporters, but responsibility is said to lie more with ownership, including Emilio Azcárraga, than with the club.
