Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has backed Patrick Dorgu to shine at Old Trafford.
Man United secured a dramatic 3-2 victory over Ipswich Town in the Premier League on Wednesday night.
Dorgu received a straight red card for a poor tackle on Omari Hutchinson two minutes before the break.
Speaking to TNT Sports after the game, Amorim threw his support behind Dorgu.
He said: “He’s ready because he proved in the last games.
“Any player can have a mistake like today and Patrick [Dorgu], the sending off, he wants to play the ball.
“Maybe he’s a little bit harsh the way he went for the ball. He’s clearly ready but he’s inexperienced for the Premier League.
“People judge right away. Last week he was okay, good performance against Everton.
“Today they will say he is not experienced enough to play Premier League. I don’t feel that.”
Dorgu joined United from Lecce last month in a deal worth around £29 million.
Amorim was desperate to bolster his squad with a new wing-back in the winter transfer window.
The 20-year-old has been one of United’s brighter performers in his first three games, but his night took a disastrous turn just four minutes in.
He somehow did not see goalkeeper Andre Onana running towards him to protect the ball.
Dorgu instead kicked the ball away from the shot stopper, allowing Jaden Philogene to score into the empty net.
He showed great character to recover from that mistake and put on a strong display.
The youngster made three tackles and registered an 83% passing accuracy.
Dorgu constantly helped United to attack from the left side but lost possession nine times.
He should have kept his studs down while challenging Hutchinson.
His red card forced us to hand him a 2/10 rating in our post-match analysis and hopefully he will learn from this mistake.
