Head coach Dino Toppmöller, two-goal-hero Jonathan Burkardt and Mario Götze spoke about the spectacular 4-3 win away to Köln.
Head coach Dino Toppmöller: “We’re really, really happy that we’re taking home the three points. We played a very good away match for long periods, despite going behind early on. The equaliser got us a foot well and truly in the door, and going 2-1 up helped us turn the match around at the right time. Up until it was 4-2, we hadn’t been giving them much to go on, but then things started to get a bit dicey at the back. We scored four goals and can be pleased that we picked up an important three points – we really needed them to help us keep pace at the top of the table, and that’s what we’ve done. I’m obviously annoyed that we let it get so close at the end of the match. That’s something we need to do better.”
Mario Götze: “It was a tough match across the pitch from defence to attack. We played extremely well today and fortunately ended up with the three points. We know that we’ve got to maintain our focus right up to the final whistle and keep our foot on the throats of the opposition. Once they scored, we got nervous.”
Jonathan Burkardt: “The three points are important to us at the moment. We had real confidence in our own qualities but we looked pretty leaky at the end. We could see that Köln were having problems turning defence into attack and reacting to that was part of the plan. A few minutes before my first goal, I didn’t get to a ball at the near post because I’d peeled off behind my marker, and I had that on my mind when Ritsu sent the ball into the box and I got ahead of my man. For the second goal, I had a bit of luck with the way it went in. The first half was one of my worst for Eintracht, but the main thing is to keep your chin up and believe that you’ll come away with the win, and it really came off for us.”
