An ode to Eddie Howe

I’m still buzzing after what Eddie Howe and his Newcastle United players delivered on Sunday!
What a celebration!
I thought about writing an account of my big day as I returned to Tyneside (I couldn’t get a ticket for Wembley) to watch the Carabao Cup Final.
However, I decided on something a bit different.
AN ODE TO EDDIE HOWE
We won the semi-final
That only meant one thing
A train trip back to Newcastle
To shout and cheer and sing
United in the final
And with it all the nerves
We hadn’t won a trophy
For fifty six long years
The morning of the match
The all important game
I didn’t have a ticket
So hopped on to the train
The journey took forever
And was packed with tons of fans
Chanting for the Toon
And sinking loads of cans
Arriving at the City
And everyone’s excited
To see a long-awaited win
For Newcastle United
Watching in a fanzone
I bought myself a beer
In my black and white
I’m delighted to be here
We knew the Toon were playing well
We knew that we could score
And forty-five long minutes in
The Geordie fans would roar
Dan Burn would be the hero
The local lad from Blyth
Smashed the ball into the net
The face of Geordie pride
And when the second half began
We cheered every pass
And every single moment
Praying it would last
When Isak had one disallowed
We may have feared the worst
But just two minutes later
Geordie hearts would burst
Burst with pride it must be said
And not with devastation
Alexander scored the goal
And led the celebration
Was this really happening
Or was it just a dream
Eddie Howe the manager
Had moulded such a team
The final whistle blew
Newcastle won the cup
We’ve been down so many times
And now we’re on the up
The whole place just exploded
The match was at an end
Everyone embracing
As strangers became friends
As Eddie lifts the trophy
Many tears were shed
Much champagne was drunk
Or maybe beers instead
We danced out of the bar
To carry on the night
It was a wild party
We’ve got a team of legends
Defending from the back
Running from midfield
And scoring from attack
So many Geordie heroes
Enjoying all the fame
Now class of 2025
So thank you Eddie Howe
