Liverpool Striker Search: Isak Leads the Way in Data-Driven Shortlist

Liverpool’s attention has firmly turned to signing a new striker, with Darwin Núñez struggling for consistent output. The three names in the mix are Hugo Ekitike, Victor Osimhen and Alexander Isak, each offering different strengths. Based on performance data, fitness record, cost and tactical fit, it’s clear which direction makes the most sense for the club.

Ekitike Needs Time Not Pressure

At just 22, Hugo Ekitike has eye-catching attacking numbers. He ranks in the 90th-plus percentiles for progressive carries, touches in the box and shots. However, his finishing is highly inefficient, scoring eight goals fewer than his expected goals tally. He also contributes little off the ball and has limited defensive involvement.

Injury-wise, he’s missed only two games across the last two seasons, showing solid availability. Costing around £70 million with a wage demand of £120,000 per week, he is the most affordable of the three. Still, for a team needing output now, his inconsistency makes him a risky project.

Osimhen Delivers Goals But Carries Risk

Victor Osimhen is a pure finisher. He ranks in the 95th percentile for non-penalty goals, has high shot volume and dominates the penalty area. His xG to goal conversion is steady and proven at the top level. However, his passing and pressing numbers are low, and his overall threat creation contribution is underwhelming.

Injury concerns are persistent. He has missed an average of 11 games per season over three years, mostly due to muscle issues. With a potential transfer fee of £60 million and wages around £300,000 a week, he’s a costly investment with red flags.

Isak Offers Ideal Blend of Talent and Fit

Alexander Isak comes out on top. The 25-year-old Newcastle striker offers consistency, Premier League experience and versatility. He’s averaging 20-plus goals across the last two seasons with near-perfect xG and xA alignment. His passing and link-up play fit Liverpool’s system, and he complements left-sided attacking options.

Isak has missed games but is trending positively, and crucially, he’s not absent during AFCON. Though Newcastle value him at £120 to £130 million, his £220,000 weekly wage is more reasonable compared to Osimhen.

Final Word

Liverpool need a forward who is ready to deliver immediately and capable of growing into a long-term leader. Based on performance, reliability and system fit, Alexander Isak is the standout option.
