Andoni Iraola has confirmed one Liverpool transfer is going to happen.

The World Cup is finally over, but Liverpool are still waiting for their transfer window to really get going. While plenty of clubs have been busy strengthening their squads, the Reds have spent most of the summer watching from the sidelines.

There has been a lot happening behind the scenes, but the reality is that Liverpool's squad looks a lot thinner than it did this time last year.

Several big names have left, and they still haven't been properly replaced. Mohamed Salah is obviously the biggest loss. Replacing one of the greatest players in the club's history was never going to be easy, but Liverpool simply have to find a long-term successor this summer.

The problems don't stop there, either. Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez are both entering the final year of their contracts, so Liverpool have to start thinking about the future at centre-back. Even if both players stay, succession planning can't be ignored forever.

There are also questions elsewhere in the defence. Andy Robertson's departure has left Milos Kerkez as the only established left-back, especially with Kostas Tsimikas' future still uncertain. Going into a long season with just one proven option in that position would be a gamble.

Centre-back is another area that needs attention.

Behind Van Dijk and Gomez, Liverpool are relying on Jeremy Jacquet and Giovanni Leoni - two hugely talented youngsters who are yet to play a single minute of Premier League football. Throwing that level of responsibility onto them straight away would be asking a lot.

When you look at the squad as a whole, it's clear Liverpool have plenty of work to do. This isn't just about replacing Salah or adding one or two players. The club is trying to rebuild the spine of the team while also planning for the future.

The World Cup is over. Now it's time for Liverpool to start making their move.

But behind the scenes there are even more significant changes happening. Michael Edwards has left the club, Richard Hughes is also expected to leave and a new consortium is likely to buy a significant minority stake from FSG.

These changes are going to have an impact on Liverpool's long-term future and they appear to be having an impact on Liverpool's immediate future as well.

As much as the club insists these changes are not having an impact on the club's transfer window, it's looking pretty much the contrary.

Right now Liverpool are in Chicago and are preparing to play their first pre-season friendly of the new campaign and the first match of Iraola's career at the club.

It's an exciting time with a lot of young players involved.

Iraola sat down with the media to discuss the excitement around the club and he insisted in a press Conference in Chicago that Liverpool need new signings.

One player who is not involved with the first-team right now and didn't travel to Chicago is Armin Pecsi. The highly rated Hungarian shot-stopper is rumoured to be joining Austrian Bundesliga side TSV Hartberg on loan.

Speaking in his press conference Iraola confirmed the deal happening.

“We are going to send on loan, for example, Armin [Pecsi], ‘keepers that probably are in another phase, but have the guarantee of those ‘keepers that already because of different reasons also,” he said.

This is an exciting move, and it's one that could be a hugely pivotal next step in Pecsi's career, someone who Liverpool believe can become a future no.1 goalkeeper.

Now, he has the chance to play at a highly competitive level and showcase his skills against top clubs week in, week out. It's a move that will help him get closer to being at a stage to be ready to help the club's senior team out.
