Vasco’s in-form forward Andrés Gómez has attracted interest from Germany, yet the club are confident of keeping him this season.

According to Globo.com, no formal approach has reached the Rio de Janeiro side, although European clubs have contacted the No 11’s representatives to discuss a potential deal. Gómez has three goals, already exceeding last season, and has a chance of a Colombia call-up for the World Cup.

The hierarchy are preparing for overseas interest. Previously on loan from Rennes in France, he was bought in January for four and a half million euros, around R$ 30 million, and is under contract until January 2031.

Vasco do not intend to sell this season. The player, his family and close friends are settled in Rio de Janeiro, something the club believe helps keep him committed.

They also plan to stress that his return to Colombia’s radar has come while playing for Vasco, which they see as important for his international prospects.

Financial power from abroad could still influence matters, but the board believe the sporting argument can prevail across the campaign. Recent cases, such as Jhon Arias missing a Colombia call after a quiet spell at Wolverhampton in England, will also support this approach. The plan is early, yet the club are moving ahead of likely activity in the next window.
